Ole »Fessor« Lindgreen

Ole »Fessor« Lindgreen
Trombonist, composer and arranger
Born on may 16th, 1938 in Copenhagen

Ole “Fessor” Lindgreen took up an interest in playing music at an early age. In his teens he became a member of the local schoolband and he first got acquianted with the tenor horn and a little later changed to sousaphone (tuba).

While at school Fessor started a long life interest in jazz music and he changed instrument for a last time in favour of the trombone which should turn out to be his good fortune. Although he received intensive education from a distinguised member of the Danish Symphony Orchestra he could not distract fom his main interest: jazz.

In the mid-50s, Fessor got involved for real playing regularly at “Cap Horn” a legendary sailors hangout in the socalled Red Light District of Nyhavn in the center of Copenhagen harbour. He toured Gennany from 1959-60 and then reappeared at “Cap Horn” as a member of ‘Ricardo’s Jazzmen’ from 1960-66 and joined ‘Basse Seidelin’s New Orleans Stompers’ for the following two years. In spite of the name of this band, Seidelin took a serious interest in the rhythm & blues-idiom.

The primary goal of Fessors playing is to present to his audience, timeless jazz based on its original form with roots in the blues- and gospel tradition, but heavily inspired and flavoured by todays sounds of the Crescent City with all of its warmth and good vibrations.

In turn this should be significant for the formation of ‘Fessor’s Big City Band’ in 1968. From the start Fessor had an open eye for whatever evolved in the fields of traditional-, swing-, blues- and sacred music in order to develop and incorporate new trends in the bands repertoire. With new arrangements and own compositions Fessor always attempt to keep “his” music alive!

Often Fessor visits New Orleans to get new inspiration participating and listening to that citys flourishing and versatile musical life. Also he found time to record with top-ranking stars like Ed Frank, Nicholas Payton, Leroy Jones, Wendell Brunious, Thais Clark, Shannon Powell, Steve Blailock, Lloyd Lambert, Don Wappie, Bill Huntington, Craig Klein, Matt Perrine, Johnny Vidacovich and others.

In Europe Fessor has recorded with Wild Bill Davison, Doc Cheatham, George Kelly, AI Casey, Sammy Price, Jay Mc Shann, Acker Bilk, Herb Hall, Spiegle Willcox, Roy Williams, Lillian Boutte, Champion Jack Dupree, Ian Wheeler, Bill Dillard, Ralph Sutton, Claude “Fiddler” Williams, Ray Anderson, Rod Mason, Red Richards, Mezz Mezzrow, Scott Robinson, John Allred, Gerald “Giant” French, Jim Galloway, Charlie Miller, Duke Heitger, Steven Bernstein, Phil Parnell, Harry Kanters, Enrico Tomasco, Engelbert Wrobel, Thomas L’ettienne, Gregory Boyd, primarily for the famous Danish Storyville label. See more in the discography.
